The Hono Kai condominium resort is centrally situated in Maalaea Bay just past the harbor on a little known part of Maui, on a quiet
dead end street sandwiched between the turquoise ocean on one side, and waving
green cane fields on the other. It is
one of only three beachfront condos on a magnificent white sandy beach. The
airport is about a 20 minute drive away, and Lahaina, with its shops, bars and
nightlife, is also about 20 minutes up the coast.
Nearby Maalaea Bay harbor has several shops, general stores, the Ocean Centre Aquarium, a few nice pubs/restaurants and is also home to several charter boat companies (including The Whale Foundation) offering everything from snorkelling cruises (to the sunken Molokini crater and "turtle town"), to deep sea fishing.and romantic evening sailing cruises. All within a nice 10 minute walk from the condo.
For a quiet morning stroll,
head down to the protected beach which stretches for 8 miles before you reach the next town of Kihei In
between Maalaea and Kihei is a large wildlife bird sanctuary and conservation
area...and that's it. Nothing but deserted beach and warm crystal clear water. Hugging the shoreline and just above the waves,
there's a crescent shaped swimming pool.
There are chairs. lounges on a well kept grassy lawn, and a nice sandy beach to idle away the hours with a beer, a glass of wine and a good book. You can watch the whales from the beach between December and April and also watch local fishermen surf cast and spear fish or you can join in yourself. There are a few good surf breaks close to shore and for the more adventurous, "freight train" the fastest break in the world, is right outside Maalaea Harbor.
There are no words to describe this place. Maui is a tropical paradise in the truest sense. Even
if you don't rent our place, you owe it to yourself to at least come to Maui and experience the magic.
